PlayStation Celebrates 30 Years in Australia With a Giant Memory Card at Sydney’s Harbour

A six-metre-tall PlayStation Memory Card lands at The Rocks, celebrating three decades of gaming history in Australia.
PlayStation is marking a massive milestone Down Under. On 15 November 2025, Sony Interactive Entertainment Australia officially celebrates 30 years of PlayStation in Australia, honouring the original 1995 regional launch that helped shape the country’s modern gaming culture.
To mark the occasion, PlayStation has unveiled something truly big, literally. Inspired by Australia’s iconic “Big Things,” the brand has revealed the Big PlayStation Memory Card, a towering six-metre monument at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal in The Rocks. The installation is a 100-times-scale recreation of the original PlayStation Memory Card, the accessory that once held every Aussie player’s precious game saves, from Crash Bandicoot to Final Fantasy VII.
This giant Memory Card isn’t just a playful throwback, it’s a tribute to the community that helped build PlayStation’s legacy. The structure showcases hundreds of real gaming memories submitted by Australian fans, celebrating decades of late-night boss fights, couch co-op chaos, and stories shared across generations.
Patrick Lagana, Director of Marketing ANZ at SIE, says the monument taps into something uniquely Australian:
"Expanding on Australia's famous Big Things, those giant fruit and animal landmarks we all know and love, the Big PlayStation Memory Card transforms a nostalgic piece of PlayStation hardware into something monumental. Showcasing Australia’s most cherished gaming memories in one place, it's our way of saying thank you to every Aussie player who has been part of this remarkable journey".
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Sydney event is free and open to the public, turning The Rocks into a celebration of three decades of innovation across the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PlayStation 5 eras.
