Cloud Strife and the gang are heading back into the skies, because the final chapter of the FINAL FANTASY VII remake project finally has a release date.
During PlayStation’s latest State of Play broadcast, SQUARE ENIX unveiled a brand-new trailer and an extensive gameplay deep dive for FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, officially confirming that the highly anticipated conclusion will launch on April 8, 2027.
And if the new footage is anything to go by, we are in for one seriously massive finale.
The final instalment in the ambitious FINAL FANTASY VII remake project will launch physically and digitally on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside PC releases through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC.
The Highwind Is Ready For Takeoff
One of the biggest reveals from the new footage is just how expansive the world of FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION is shaping up to be.
Players will be able to explore a truly open planet, travelling across its environments aboard the iconic Highwind airship. Rather than simply acting as a vehicle for getting from A to B, the Highwind looks set to be an essential part of exploring the game's world and discovering everything waiting beyond the main story.
And, naturally, you won't be doing all that exploring on foot.
Players can team up with Piko the Chocobo, a trusty companion who grows alongside the party and learns new traversal and combat abilities throughout the adventure. Because if there is one thing Final Fantasy has taught us, it is that every great adventure is better with a Chocobo.
The game will also introduce a new grappling gun, allowing Cloud and the party to scale rooftops and zip through the environment with greater freedom.
Basically, getting around this world is about to become a whole lot more fun.
Cid And Vincent Join The Fight
The new gameplay footage also gives us a closer look at two characters joining the playable roster: Cid and Vincent.
Both characters will bring their own abilities to the party, alongside the new FITS system.
FITS introduces specialised combat roles - Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner, allowing characters to gain new abilities and push their power even further depending on their chosen role.
The extended gameplay footage specifically showcases Cid using the Knight FITS and Vincent using the Summoner FITS, giving us a glimpse at how the system can dramatically change the way characters approach combat.
And speaking of combat, REVELATION will feature a refined version of the hybrid combat system that has become one of the defining features of the remake project.
Players will also have more control over their party than ever before. Active characters can be swapped freely while exploring, and players can change their party composition whenever they want.
Your Choices Can Shape The Story
If you're the kind of player who spends approximately 45 minutes deciding which character should accompany you on a side quest because you are convinced it will somehow change the fate of the universe, REVELATION has some very good news for you.
Certain quests will allow players to choose which party members undertake them, with those decisions potentially influencing how specific events and scenarios unfold.
That means your party isn't just about finding the strongest possible combination for combat. Who you bring along could also affect your experience of the story.
And considering this is the conclusion to a story that has already given fans plenty to speculate about, we're expecting the internet to have thoughts.

The story of FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION picks up with the world facing complete annihilation.
Cloud Strife and his companions are dealing with the loss of a beloved ally while their greatest enemy, Sephiroth, edges closer to godhood. With Meteor threatening the destruction of the planet, the party takes to the skies aboard the Highwind in a desperate race against time.
The stakes don't get much higher than that.
Sephiroth is nearing his ultimate power. Meteor is on its way. The planet is on the brink.

Haven't Played The Remakes Yet? You've Got Time
If you've somehow managed to avoid the FINAL FANTASY VII remake saga so far, now might be a pretty good time to catch up.
Both FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE and FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH are currently available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
SQUARE ENIX has also added a Streamlined Progression option to both games, offering features such as unlimited HP and MP, a permanently full ATB gauge and easier weapon ability acquisition.
So if you're desperate to experience the story but don't have the time (or emotional energy) to grind your way through two enormous RPGs before April 2027, there are options.
And yes, you'll want to catch up.
