Meet Nabii: The Korean-Australian Naarm Artist Blending Hyperpop, Trance and Club Emotion

Nabii – an enigmatic, refreshing voice among the Naarm music scene, has been making waves in the last few years. If you haven’t heard of Nabii, then where have you been hiding? Korean-Australian, Nabii is also the founder of the radio show AngelFM, which champions femme and POC voices in music. Her artistic flights reflect a deep connection to identity, emotion, and community, and she continues to push boundaries with every track and live set she delivers with angelic movement.

Nabii’s sound sits somewhere between raw emotion and full-throttle dance energy. Drawing from hyperpop, trance, and electronic club sounds, her tracks feel intimate and nostalgic while still hitting hard on the dance floor. There’s a dreamy, almost cinematic quality to her work, but it’s always grounded in real feelings like love, longing, and self-expression. Whether you’re listening alone with headphones or hearing it blasted through a club system and vibrating from the floor to your body, her music has a way of pulling you into her world.

Nabii’s imagery is just as important as her sound. She’s inspiring not only as a musician but also as a fashion stylist. Her aesthetic is both dreamy but bold, delicate yet intense, visuals that mimic the glitchy celestial sound in her music. Nabii has created a whole world for herself that has been gracefully shared with the world; if you haven’t already, I implore you to take a listen for yourself and get lost in the world of Nabii.

How long did it take you to find your “sound”?

It's taken me a couple of years to land on my current sound. I've always been drawn to storytelling, music that's expressive/emotional, it's what comes naturally to me. as well as writing more catchy/pop centric toplines and melodies.

In a way I'm still discovering my sound - I find the most joy in experimenting and exploring. I'm sure my sound will change over time as I grow and change. I think starting a second alias has definitely helped with defining my sound.

What is the most fun project you've worked on ever?

I've only done a couple EP's now. I think the last 'temporary bliss' has been the most fun to date because so many people were involved in it. In terms of visuals, photoshoots and now this launch party that will happen on the 12th of Dec. I've connected with so many beautiful, talented people on these sets and we got to create some really cool things together.

How did you start making music? Is there anything you would've changed if you could redo it?

I used to wish I had done some formal education like a music uni degree, but I also feel like then I wouldn't be such an intuitive producer. I think my strength lies in the fact that I have a different understanding of things - learnt through experimenting/trial and error. Music is my happy place, maybe I wouldn't love making music as much as I do (because i'm kinda the worst student).

What is your dream performance?

Ahhh performing live at a festival! Like Golden Plains/Meredith and playing an international show!

Why did you start AngelFM?

The most inspired people I know are the fem/femme creatives/artists in the scene. It was a way to spotlight their craft and give them a space to talk their shi. There aren't necessarily many spaces where emerging/independent artists are able to talk about their craft and get into why they do what they do. I'm also just a big nerd, and I love to know everyone has such a unique process and approach to creating.

Describe your aesthetic for us.

Ethereal emotional shorty and chronically online.

Any dream collaborations?

Charli xcx and omg if I could produce/write for katseye!!! also ninajirachi!!

Favourite part of the music making process?

My favourite part is when I'm making music from a specific feeling/emotion, locked into the flow state - like nothing else in the world exists/matters - just me and the lil world I'm building. I guess it's a healthy form of escapism. Then you're listening to it dancing around in your room, feeling like it's the best song you've ever made - i love that part.

Hardest part of the music making process

the promoting and marketing business side of it...i'm slowly learning - It's definitely a skill itself. Or deciding when a song is done - sometimes you just need to stop otherwise you can go on forever.

What are you working on now that you want to tell Colin readers?

My next EP that I've been working on! I'm keen to share the next project. Very excited to share the new sounds and feelings! I have a single coming out that I recently shot an MV for.

It won’t come out until like late March though !!
