Experience Retro Action in FUBUKI ~zero in on Holoearth~ Demo available on Steam now
The pixelated action platformer FUBUKI ~zero in on Holoearth~, featuring characters from the beloved Hololive Alternative universe, has officially launched its demo on PC via Steam as part of Steam Next Fest. Developed by Peposoft and WSS Playground and published by Phoenixx Inc., this fast-paced dungeon-crawling adventure lets players step into the shoes of Shirakami Fubuki, the fox-girl streamer from the Hololive multiverse, as she defends her shrine and the land of Yamato from a demonic invasion. The demo is available on Steam now.
A Retro-Inspired Platforming Adventure
FUBUKI ~zero in on Holoearth~ brings a nostalgic 2D side-scrolling experience reminiscent of classic Mario titles, blended with the fast-paced action of dungeon crawlers. Players traverse a beautifully pixelated, Japan-inspired world filled with unique enemies and challenging bosses. The first boss encounter pits players against a treasure-hunting pirate, setting the stage for more thrilling battles to come.
Gameplay Mechanics and Controller Setup
For the best gameplay experience, we highly recommend you use a controller as we found this gave us the best experience. Since the tutorial does not provide preset button mappings, setting up controls before jumping into the action will help you avoid frustration. With quick dashes, double jumps, and various weapons at your disposal, you will need precise reflexes to navigate through levels teeming with floating lanterns, archers, masked foes, and even sentient slot machines.
Charming Characters and Cultural References
True to Hololive’s legacy, the game incorporates characters with distinct personalities that resonate with fans and gamers alike. Wolf-girl Ookami Mio joins Fubuki in her quest, bringing additional dynamic interactions and charm to the story. The game’s environments showcase rich cultural influences, from vibrant festivals and towering temples to Egyptian-themed casinos reminiscent of the Las Vegas Strip.
Combat and Customization
Players can unleash melee combos with Fubuki’s blade, charge up ranged attacks for long-distance strikes, and summon mini-rocket foxes to assist in battle. Additional subweapons, such as pistols, provide varied combat strategies. Between missions, players can visit Fubuki’s home to purchase power-ups, extra lives, and mystery items from Mizore’s Kitchen, enhancing their abilities for the challenges ahead.
A Fun Yet Challenging Experience
While the game’s vibrant pixel art and immersive world design add to its appeal, some players may find it difficult to track incoming attacks and monitor their HP due to the highly colourful visuals and interface placement. However, for those who enjoy retro gaming and have a soft spot for Hololive’s characters and lore, FUBUKI ~zero in on Holoearth~ offers a thrilling and rewarding experience.
