Everything We Know About the Fourth Wing TV Adaptation (So Far)

BookTok's favourite dragon-filled romantasy is officially taking flight.

After years of speculation, Rebecca Yarros' blockbuster novel Fourth Wing is finally heading to the small screen, with Prime Video officially ordering the adaptation to series. For fans of Violet Sorrengail, Xaden Riorson and the deadly halls of Basgiath War College, the announcement is the biggest update yet, and the creative team behind it has us feeling optimistic.

Here's everything we know about the Fourth Wing TV adaptation so far.

Fourth Wing is officially coming to Prime Video

After acquiring the rights shortly after the novel became a publishing sensation in 2023, Amazon MGM Studios has officially given Fourth Wing a full series order for Prime Video. The adaptation will bring Rebecca Yarros' bestselling Empyrean series to television, introducing an even wider audience to its mix of dragons, political intrigue, high-stakes action and unforgettable romance.

Michael B. Jordan is producing the series

One of the biggest surprises surrounding the adaptation is that Michael B. Jordan is attached as an executive producer through his production company, Outlier Society.

Jordan has built an impressive producing résumé alongside his acting career, and his involvement has been met with plenty of excitement from readers eager to see the books treated with the scale and care they deserve. Outlier Society has been involved with the project since Amazon secured the rights.

Meredith Averill is the new showrunner

Leading the adaptation is Meredith Averill, whose previous work includes Locke & Key and The Haunting of Hill House.

Averill stepped into the role after the departure of the project's original showrunner and will oversee the series as both showrunner and executive producer. Her experience balancing fantasy, horror and emotional storytelling makes her an exciting choice for bringing Basgiath War College to life.

Lisa Joy will direct the first episode

Fans can also look forward to the series opening under the direction of Lisa Joy, best known for Westworld and as an executive producer on Fallout.

Joy has officially signed on to direct the pilot episode while also serving as an executive producer through Kilter Films. Given her experience creating ambitious, cinematic worlds, she's a strong fit for the sprawling fantasy setting of Navarre.

Rebecca Yarros is heavily involved

Perhaps the most reassuring news for longtime readers is that Rebecca Yarros isn't simply handing over the keys.

The bestselling author is serving as an executive producer and has shared the planned five-book arc of The Empyrean series with the creative team to help ensure the adaptation remains faithful to the larger story. Yarros has repeatedly expressed confidence in the team and their commitment to honouring both the books and the passionate fan community that helped turn Fourth Wing into a global phenomenon.

Has the cast been announced?

Not yet.

As of July 2026, Prime Video has not revealed any casting for Violet, Xaden or the rest of Basgiath's cadets. While fan casting continues to dominate social media, the studio has remained tight-lipped, and no official release window has been announced. Production is still in its early stages, meaning it may be some time before fans get their first look at the cast.

When could Fourth Wing be released?

Unfortunately, there's still no official premiere date.

With the series only recently receiving its official order and casting yet to be announced, production is still ramping up. While fans are hoping to return to Basgiath as soon as possible, Prime Video has not confirmed when the series will begin filming or when it will debut.

Why fans are excited

The announcement has been met with overwhelming excitement online, with many readers praising the calibre of the creative team. Across fan communities, Michael B. Jordan's involvement, Meredith Averill's appointment as showrunner and Lisa Joy directing the pilot have all been seen as promising signs that the adaptation could deliver the scale and emotion readers expect.

Until then, fans will just have to keep re-reading Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm while waiting for the dragons to finally take flight on Prime Video.
