BookTok's favourite dragon-filled romantasy is officially taking flight.
After years of speculation, Rebecca Yarros' blockbuster novel Fourth Wing is finally heading to the small screen, with Prime Video officially ordering the adaptation to series. For fans of Violet Sorrengail, Xaden Riorson and the deadly halls of Basgiath War College, the announcement is the biggest update yet, and the creative team behind it has us feeling optimistic.

Fourth Wing is officially coming to Prime Video

Meredith Averill is the new showrunner
Leading the adaptation is Meredith Averill, whose previous work includes Locke & Key and The Haunting of Hill House.

Lisa Joy will direct the first episode
Fans can also look forward to the series opening under the direction of Lisa Joy, best known for Westworld and as an executive producer on Fallout.
Joy has officially signed on to direct the pilot episode while also serving as an executive producer through Kilter Films. Given her experience creating ambitious, cinematic worlds, she's a strong fit for the sprawling fantasy setting of Navarre.
Rebecca Yarros is heavily involved
Perhaps the most reassuring news for longtime readers is that Rebecca Yarros isn't simply handing over the keys.
The bestselling author is serving as an executive producer and has shared the planned five-book arc of The Empyrean series with the creative team to help ensure the adaptation remains faithful to the larger story. Yarros has repeatedly expressed confidence in the team and their commitment to honouring both the books and the passionate fan community that helped turn Fourth Wing into a global phenomenon.

As of July 2026, Prime Video has not revealed any casting for Violet, Xaden or the rest of Basgiath's cadets.
