Booked & Colin-ed – August 2025

Whether you’re devouring fantasy smut under a weighted blanket or ugly crying in public over a single poetic paragraph, we’ve got you. Welcome to Booked & Colin-ed, the official Colin Magazine Book Club, where we scream about stories that leave us hooked, haunted, and wholly obsessed.
Silvercloak by L. K. Steven
Imagine if Harry Potter grew up into a hot, revenge-fueled twenty-something mage who decided to go undercover in the Death Eaters. Now add a magic system where pleasure and pain are literal currencies for regeneration, and you’ve got Silvercloak.
This one had us in a chokehold from the first page. It’s giving enemies-to-lovers, power plays, and secrets on secrets all wrapped up in a dangerously addictive package. The female protagonist? Low-key, my spirit animal. Deliciously dark and unapologetically kinky—consider us obsessed.
🔥 Spicy Scene Alert: Intensity level: Chapter 55. That’s it. That’s the note.
⭐ Colin Star Rating: 4.5/5 – It’s messy, it’s magical, and it gave us emotional whiplash in the best way.
White Silence by Jodie Taylor
Picking this up right after ACOTAR was a shock to the system, in the best way. Suddenly, no fae, no endless spice, just pure mystery with a slow-burn supernatural edge. And honestly? We’re into it.
At first, it took a minute to settle in, but then we started seeing the vision. And when you remember this is written by THE Jodie Taylor (yes, the genius behind The Chronicles of St Mary’s), it all makes sense. Toss in a tortured, mysterious hottie from a mental institute with questionable intentions, and um, yes please.
It’s giving supernatural thriller realness, laced with secrets and intrigue. Don’t mind us, we’re sprinting to buy book two.
🔥 Spicy Scene Alert: Just a simmering tension, but it’s the slow-burn that slays.
⭐ Colin Star Rating: 4/5 – Mystery, suspense, and a dash of heartbreak. We’re hooked.
A Crown of Ivy and Glass by Claire Legrand
We fully admit we grabbed this one for the cover art alone (no regrets). The concept? Super interesting. Our protagonist Gemma’s body literally rejects magic like poison, which is kind of awkward when you’re part of one of the most powerful magical families.
There’s a solid romance arc, accomplices → lovers → enemies → lovers again. Classic. The spice was satisfying, and watching Gemma grow stronger was rewarding. But… if we’re honest, it didn’t grab us hard enough to keep going with the series.
🔥 Spicy Scene Alert: Chapter 22 – it’s cute, it’s steamy, but not our main thrill.
⭐ Colin Star Rating: 3.5/5 – Pretty cover, good story, but not must-read sequel territory.
